Representative Payee

A representative payee receives Social Security and/or Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI), retirement payments, military payments, or any other form of monthly income for individuals who have demonstrated that they cannot manage their own benefits. The main responsibility of a payee is to use the funds to pay the current and foreseeable needs of the beneficiary.

They frequently go beyond just managing finances and become involved in the life of the beneficiary, encouraging them in good decision-making.

Financial counseling can be provided to help the ward establish a monthly spending plan and keeps the individual involved as much as possible in the financial decision process when necessary. 

 

Annual accounting to the Social Security Administration are done to prove benefits have been used according to Social Security guidelines.  Reports are also provided to the probate courts.
